Scouting for Food: Pack 2020’s Community Service Story

Over the last several weeks, the Scouts and families of Pack 2020 came together with a mission of service: to collect food for families in need at their Chartered Organization, A. Philip Randolph Elementary School. Through dedication, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose, they made a meaningful impact while embodying the true spirit of Scouting.

What Is Scouting for Food?

Scouting for Food is a nationwide service initiative designed to fight hunger in local communities. Each year, Scouts from across the Atlanta Area Council participate to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank and other local food pantries. Here's how it works:

  1. Pick a Collection Date: Scouts select a day to gather non-perishable food donations from their communities.
  2. Spread the Word: Neighbors are notified about the collection through flyers, emails, or personalized notes. This gives them 7–10 days to prepare donations.
  3. Collect and Deliver: Scouts collect the donations, ensuring they handle the items with care and safety. Finally, the food is delivered to a designated drop-off location or food pantry.

This year, Pack 2020 wholeheartedly embraced the Scouting for Food challenge, transforming it into a hands-on learning experience in compassion and civic duty. For the young Scouts, Scouting for Food was about more than just collecting cans and boxes; it was an opportunity to learn the value of kindness and community service.
