Troop 370 Scout Wins National Eagle Scout Service Project Award
Each year, the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) recognizes Eagle Scouts from each of the 14 National Service Territories (NST) with the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award.
We are proud to share that Collin Maher of Troop 370 in Brookhaven received the Project of the Year Award for National Service Territory 14!
This award celebrates exceptional Eagle Scout service projects that demonstrate outstanding leadership, impact, and sustainability. Projects considered for this honor must embody the values of scouting while addressing a significant need, leaving a lasting positive impact.
Collin's project involved creating, advertising, and hosting a 5K charity run with the proceeds going to children in need. At Lake Forest Elementary School in Sandy Springs, Collin saw an opportunity to make a difference by ensuring that every child had access to proper athletic footwear.
I wanted to buy new pairs of shoes for economically disadvantaged youth. This is important to me because of my love for running. I know how a new pair of shoes impacts comfortability and confidence.
Collin said the project was an 'enormous undertaking' that took nearly an entire year to execute. From navigating the complexities of organizing a charity event to establishing his own non-profit - Collin's Classic Charities Corporation, his determination and resourcefulness were put to the test.
He called the race the “Cocoa Classic”, and in February 2023, dozens of sponsors and hundreds of community members and local runners came together to raise over $18,000 in support of the youth at Lake Forest Elementary. The proceeds from the race bought over 600 new pairs of shoes for every child in the school.
The race was such a success, Collin hosted the second annual Cocoa Classic earlier this year with the proceeds benefiting the students of Ison Springs Elementary School in Sandy Springs.
Congratulations, Collin, on earning the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award for NST 14!
