TAKE A WALK THROUGH ATLANTA’S HISTORY

Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 8 AM - 12 PM, an event for the Atlanta community, including Scouts, parents, and leaders, is invited to join the annual Civil Rights Heritage Hike. The hike is a learning tour that visits Atlanta’s historic and active centers for our nation’s civil rights.

DID YOU KNOW THIS?

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Boy Scout. It’s true! He was registered as a member of Troop 151 in Atlanta. His troop was chartered with Ebenezer Baptist Church, where young Martin’s father was a pastor.

While Troop 151 is no longer chartered with Ebenezer Baptist Church, Troop and Pack 213 meet there every other Sunday. Read more about Dr. King's youth in Scouting here.

EMBARK ON A HISTORY HUNT OF ATLANTA’S CIVIL RIGHTS LOCATIONS

Our hike covers 1.3 miles past many historical locations in Atlanta’s civil rights history, from the King Center to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Challenge yourself to find all of the locations on our History Hunt checklist, but don’t forget the bonus stamps found at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historical Park!
