Unit Service will enable units to better serve more youth by providing an adequate number of trained commissioners who provide a link to District Operating Committee and other resources in support of a quality unit program.

The mission of Unit Service is to help units better serve more youth through scouting.

  • Supporting unit growth and retention through the Journey to Excellence.
  • Contacting units and capturing in commissioner tools their strengths, needs, and a unit service plan that enables continuing improvement.
  • Linking unit needs to District Operating Committee and other resources.
  • Supporting timely unit, district and council charter renewals.
  • Supporting unit leaders by delivering effective roundtables that provide program ideas, relationship development, and timely communication.

The Atlanta Area Council’s annual College of Commissioner Science provides supplemental training on a broad range of topics for commissioners. It’s an excellent opportunity for both new and experienced commissioners to expand their skills, share their experiences and build their Scouting network.

Each year, the College offers the participant a range of classes covering a variety of topics relevant to commissioners. Courses are available for unit commissioners, new-unit commissioners, roundtable commissioners, district/assistant district commissioners

To encourage participants to build on previous learnings, it is structured in an academic format beginning with Bachelor Courses, followed by Master Courses and then rounding out training with the Doctor of Commissioner Science Degree. Continuing Education courses continue the training.
