Backcountry Outdoor Leader Skills Training
August 29 - Volunteer Service Center AND
September 11-13 or October 2-4 - Cohutta Wilderness
The Atlanta Area Council Backcountry Outdoor Leader Skills training places an emphasis on how to conduct backpacking campouts following patrol or "crew" methods. This is excellent training for adult advisors preparing crews for Philmont, conducting other high adventure treks, or just taking Scouts out into the wilderness. If you have been to Philmont before then you understand the importance of everyone "being prepared". The most successful crews are those with trained leaders. Feedbacks from this year’s Philmont Rangers are that crews trained in course are some of the best they have ever seen.
In order for to prepare your own crews for 2015, you need to start immediately. From our previous training session we determined this training needs to be conducted in the Fall prior to going to Philmont so that Advisors can prepare their own crews in the Spring. The training is comprehensive and is designed for those who have never been to those with several treks under their belts. The more advisors trained the easier it will be to develop high performing teams. Don't delay - register today!
