Now Hiring: Community Relations Intern (Fall Semester 2017)

Position Description

The Community Relations Intern will play an active role in the Field Service department of the Atlanta Area Council, Boy Scouts of America community. Under the supervision of the Field Director, the intern will work with professional Scouters to work with volunteers and community leaders to rally support for Scouting. The intern will learn how to reach communities and promote the Scouting program in the Atlanta area and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

  • Work with and recruit a volunteer board of directors to lead and assist with our youth leadership program
  • Membership // Support staff in recruiting youth and adult, identify and form new Scouting units
  • Fund Development // Identify & secure potential donors and companies to support program
  • Program // Assist with recruiting volunteers, planning, and logistics of Field Service events
  • Unit Service // Attend and participate in committee meetings and volunteer brainstorming sessions as directed

Requirements & Skills

  • Must be actively enrolled in a college or university, preferably with at least junior standing.
  • Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration.
  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities and weekend work is frequently required to achieve positive objectives.
  • A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.
  • Offers for internship are subject to criminal, reference and motor vehicle background checks.
  • Available to work 15-20 hours per week
  • Access to reliable transportation

Professional Development

Interns will have the opportunity to participate in the following:

  • Coaching & Developing a LinkedIn profile. A professional Headshot will be taken for use.

  • Attend special events and meetings with the Field Service Directors and District Executives.
  • Attend up to four networking events with business professionals
  • Coaching with upper management in Council
