Jamboree Patches: The Atlanta Area Council has designed a very unique and fun set of patches for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree. The "Cool Birds Get Wild" patches should be a hot commodity for traders at the Jamboree this summer. 2013 patch set orders are no longer available, deadline is past What is a Jamboree? The first Jamboree was held in 1932 organized by Lord Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting, to gather Scouts together in fellowship and games. Since 1937, the Boy Scouts of America has hosted National Jamborees in the United States. The activities are practically endless including sailing, kayaking, fishing, scuba, archery, trap shooting, bikeathlons, rappelling, Action Alleys, Merit Badge Midways and many other activities. The Jamboree is Scouting at its very best. Where is the Jamboree? The Jamboree will be conducted at the Summit-Betchel Family National Scouting Reserve in West Virginia. Who can go to the Jamboree? The Atlanta Area Council will be represented by 6 Troops (216 youth and 24 adults) at the 2013 Jamboree as official participants of our Contingent. In addition we will take 2 Venturing Crews (16 youth and 4 adults). The participants from units all over the Atlanta Area Council will be formed into special Jamboree Troops/Crews. This will truly be a once in a lifetime experience. Space will be limited. Participating Scouts must between the ages of 12 and 18 at the time of the Jamboree and at least have attained the rank of 1st Class. Registered Venturers must be between the ages of 14 and 20 at the time of the Jamboree. What is the cost of the Jamboree? The cost of the Jamboree for the Atlanta contingent is estimated to be $1,300. Included will be National fees, transportation, equipment, meals, training and insurance. There will be limited opportunities for camperships for those that may have difficulty with the entire fee. We would encourage all Jamboree Scouts to start their individual fundraising efforts now. Our AAC Jamboree Payment Plan is listed below. How can I go as an Adult? While the Jamboree is designed for the boys that are in the Boy Scout program, there is a place for adults to attend the Jamboree as well. The Atlanta Council contingent will be led by a select group of 28 Scouters that have applied, interviewed and trained to lead the special Contingent Troops/Crews. At this time, this group is in place. There is plenty of opportunity for adult Scouters to attend the Jamboree as part of the National Staff that is needed to run the Jamboree. In addition to working at the Jamboree, you will have time to see the sights and participate in the activities. How to Apply: All youth and adults must complete an online application. Applicants will need to use their BSA ID number to complete the application Web site. Youth will need parental assistance in applying for the Jamboree. This application does not guarantee you a position for the Jamboree, but does get you started on the process to be approved as a participant, or staff member.
